3 Bold Accent Wall Ideas For Your Home
Curious about adding an accent wall in your home but not sure where to begin? After months of staring at this wall and imagining how it could be better, I ultimately landed on a green board and batten accent wall for our front entryway.
But before I share HOW to add an accent wall to your space, I wanted to provide you with some inspiration of your own.
These three dynamic and tasteful accent wall ideas led to the birth of the green accent wall that now graces our front entrance. I love walking by it every day.
Black Accent Wall
If you want to make a statement but aren’t yet ready to commit to the full batten wall, adding an accent wall in a rich color is an easy yet bold place to start.
This black accent wall served as my first inspiration. I love how the black wall grounds the bed and provides a contrast with the lighter bedside shelf and blue comforter.
As I began to dabble more in black as a foundational decor color in our home, I quickly learned it serves well as a neutral. You can weave it into temporary decor like flower vases and candles or even make it more permanent by choosing black for long term items such as light fixtures, door knobs, and kitchen cabinet hardware.
An early pandemic project, this black wall that I painted with Sherwin-Williams Tricorn Black served as the focal point of our front entryway and living room for almost two years.
Nervous about using more black in your home? Maria Killam provides tips on how to decorate with black here. And if you still don’t like it, the great thing about paint is you can always paint over it.
Forest Wall Mural
Ever since my husband and I traveled through western Canada for a month during the summer of 2018, I have a new appreciation for forest green. I highly suggest considering a dark green accent wall if you’re looking for a way to infuse more nature into your decor. In fact, Vogue listed “nature-inspired surfaces and objects” as one of the hottest interior design trends in 2022.
Bambetle’s forest wall mural might provide inspiration if you’re looking to dive deep into the forest vibes.
I chose a less committed approach with a large canvas print from the CanvasPrintingShop in Ukraine. One of their prints now hangs to the right of our leather couch to help bring a bit of the outdoors into our home.
BOARD AND BATTEN WALL
Finally, I stumbled across this batten wall idea from HowMuchWoodCo on Etsy and was completely sold because it opened the door to:
- Installing a batten wall at a low cost
- Adding dark green to the space, further tying in with the dark green canvas print
- Creativity: I actually drew up the design for this wall while half asleep on the couch and I actually LOVE how it turned out.
